Isn’t that the first and foremost question you Google when you’re planning a trip? With the new normal setting in travel, everyone is itching to take their first trips. Here’s a list of things you need to know before you make your next hotel booking!
#1: No access to the swimming pool
If you’re booking a hotel and planning a relaxing day by the pool—since the summer is coming up we get you—you’re heading towards disappointment. Swimming pools are not available because of COVID regulations. Even if a hotel is offering pools/saunas, I would recommend you rethink that decision.
#2: No gyms are open
Sweat and touchpoints being high in these areas, this isn’t a big surprise. You can always take a run around the property or just do some cardio to soothe your workout cravings! And, if your body will go into a shock if you don’t sweat it (just kidding), try some hike around the spot.
#3 Masks are mandatory
This is a no-brainer for many of us. But you’ll be surprised at the number of people who argue how they have rights! Yes, I heard this funny (don’t want to use strong words) argument a tourist had with the clerk about how the whole point of a vacation was to relax and a mask cramped his style.
#4 Social distancing
After my recent Goa trip, I’m very touchy about this point. No matter how crowded a destination is, you NEED to follow social distancing. Hoteliers usually try (try being the operative word) to lay down the rules but not many adhere to this, sadly. But if you’re traveling be responsible and kindly follow them.
#5: Sanitizers at common points
Hand sanitizers are available at the hotel and you should use them. These are usually available in common areas inclusive of the reception, restaurants, and other spots.
#6 Temperature checks
You will have a guard (either the security or a luggage boy) with a temperature gun checking if you have a fever. Usually, they take note of this, but not always. Thankfully, these guns are not aimed at your head anymore and the hand will suffice!
#7 Contactless check-in
This, I personally feel, is a good restriction and can help you avoid unnecessary contact with surfaces. You can scan a QR code or use a link to check yourself in. But don’t worry the front desk isn’t empty just because of this. There will be executives available to help you out.
#8 Limited access to toiletries/kettles/hairdryers
Some hotels, stays, and lodges are now following Bring Your Own Toiletries policy. Towels, soaps, and other electrical necessities that were taken for granted will now either be charged or not available at all. Although it puts a crimp on your packing light agenda, it is advised you check with the hotel ahead of booking.
#9 Fully sanitized rooms; limited housekeeping
While clean rooms were your right, this has an added element of having housekeeping personnel follow the COVID norms and don a PPE kit and correct sanitization process. If you find it lacking, always raise a concern and bring it to the notice of the management.
#8 Limited access to common rooms
Some places, the games room, kids play area, smoking rooms have limited access. Even buffets have been discontinued. But this solely varies based on the hotel you’re staying at. If you’re planning a staycation always get this checked before you book.
