#28daysoftravellove Day 4: Great Food

You can search for the perfect idli vada in Delhi. Or want a craving for chana-bhatura handled in Chennai. But nothing beats the authentic taste of the native food town! Whether you’re having prawn ghee roast at a Mangalorean restaurant or beating the heat with fresh cucumbers in Kunigal or going into a seafood coma in Goa, everything simply feels bliss.

Why eat local cuisine?

I know you might think I am biased towards food being a foodie. But, trust me, eating local cuisines at a local restaurant is so much better than its namesake in your own city!

For one, the fresh ingredients add to their culinary brilliance. But nothing can stump out the fact that some things taste better in their native home.

With travel comes the joy of sampling some lip-smacking dishes every town has to offer. You can pig out on their local specialty or get drunk on the home-brewed hooch, it is that simple.

Fresh perspective on food

All foodies on their trips fall in love with treating their tummies to some delicious dishes. Whether you love food or not, just try a dish. You’ll begin your own journey that will change your opinion on things.

I couldn’t handle dal-rice but take me to a North Indian home and I now crave khichdi like no other lentil dish!

What’s wonderful is that you get to learn something new, Google the recipe and treat your family to this lovely dish once you’re back. I can’t guarantee it may taste that good, but somethings are damn good not be shared.

Where to find good food

The main reason many people find it hard to search for good restaurants is that we go about it the wrong way. Why go all the way to Thailand to eat pizza when you can sample the same or better version of it at home?

Travel calls for hands-on experience with its local culture and that does include food as well. Instead of asking the locals where we can eat (insert comfort food), try asking them what dish is a must try and where you can find it.

A local can guide you to the best food they like. You’ll surely find yourself having too many options to cover in a short span.
