#28daysoftravellove Day 7: Step out of Comfort Zone

If you get everything you want by just being alive, wouldn’t life be so boring? I doubt any of us would grow to be the people we are if we did. Travel has a way of making you confront your most innate fears; pushing you into situations where you brave them.

My out of comfort zone experience

I went to Shilhaandara resort near Ramanagara on my birthday to have some fun. Never did I realize I had the fear of heights until I was up on a zip line claimed to be the longest in South India. I saw below and my gut clenched and my heart did skip a beat.

That fear I couldn’t mistake as adrenaline! But just to be sure (or more to the point to convince myself I wasn’t acrophobic), I went at it again. This time though it was confirmed. But that didn’t stop me from trekking up Doddabetta peak in Ooty and seeing the view. Nor it did stop me from parasailing in Malvan beach.

What it did was make me have a mind to how my body and mind might react to such situations and prepare earlier.

Least expected things

You might not know a lot of things about yourself and travel will throw light on each one of them. Whether you’re grumpy in the mornings, don’t trust strangers easily, or even hog all the bed covers! Being self-conscious about your own attributes lays a great foundation in seeking things you like.

I started my first travel journal after a school trip to Wonder La. (I wrote a 20-page recollection and man, was I detailed!) From there, things just started adding up from my first journal to, a collection of letters to myself (I have a habit of writing letters to myself).

Embrace who you are

The whole point of stepping out of your comfort zone is to grow as a great human being and accepting your shortcomings. That doesn’t mean you try to change to meet the expectations of the world. People are veer towards originality and that makes you unique enough to follow!

Travel gives you a sense of freedom to be just you. And most of the time, you’ll love the personality, you are, when you’re far away from your friends and family. Away from expectations and norms you unconsciously adhere to.
