I started my travel blog with hopes of travelling full time. Making a career out of doing what I love the most. But with the onset of the pandemic, this became less about writing with passion and more about fretting about my success.
Why my niche didn’t work
I was on a daily basis intimidated by the sheer numbers. Yes, many may tell that it needs grit and determination to become successful in a niche. But, the whole point of my blog was to do something I love and I lost focus on that.
Over strategizing
It became about numbers, SEO, routines, and budgeting that I forgot my love for writing and churned less than 30 articles in a year. This led me to ponder my choices. Why become so upset and unhappy about something? My own expectations became my hindrance and I started detoxing my life—physically and mentally.

How I found my actual niche
I started seeing social media as means to promote my work rather than a platform that validates my hard work. Likes, comments and engagement took a backseat and I focused on bringing something to the masses that would benefit them rather than indulge in my own favourite pastime.
I focussed on what I wanted to become and build in positive thinking and affirmations that led to a drastic change in how I think and perceive my life.
Thus, I switched from travel blogging to just blogging about wellness measures. We can only give others what we have plenty of; knowledge, understanding, empathy, and guidance.
Thus, I chose a path that lets me share my joy and help many like me to find their calling without having to undergo so much stress that you lose yourself in numbers.
Why switching niche is good
There are bloggers out there who might scare you about picking the blog niche right. And, yes they are kind of right. But when you figure out that you’ve chosen the wrong one, what do you do? Do you let the blog suffer because of that mistake?
Because c’mon everybody makes mistakes and the only solution is to rectify it. So, don’t worry about changing it too many times. Just get it right and stick to it.

You’ll never be able to feel complete without the right niche.
What to do when you switch niches
Think it over
Ask yourself if you’re ready for the loss of followers who come to you for a certain niche. With that in mind, also focus on whether you’re likely to be interested in the new niche and how you feel about the topic.
Measure contribution
You want to be contributing something to that niche and not just switching because you can’t write more. Are you making a difference? Do you feel happy if you switch?
See what others are doing right
Research is the key to finding success in any niche. See what the other writers are doing and then make your own unique brand. The people already in the niche are one step ahead of you because they’ve got something right. Focus on that rather than starting from scratch.
Trust the learning curve
You needn’t get everything right on the first go. Always believe in the process and work towards your goal. Numbers and followers aren’t what you want to focus on first. You’re here for content creation. The following will come next.
Hardwork; no shortcuts
It’s all about effort and not finding any ways to hit popularity in the shortest span. Invest hours in creating content that you believe in and spread it to the world and you’ll see results automatically.
Evaluate after a point
When you’re on a mission, sometimes you lose focus on the end goal. Take a break after a certain time and think about whether you’re getting things right. If you’re making the same mistake retract your steps. Remember why you started the niche and reinstate that belief.
I hope my experience was able to give a measure of inspiration to any of you. Let me know if you have any questions, and I’ll be happy to answer 🙂
